Card.com Offering Over 50 New Star Trek Themed Debit Cards 

If you’ve ever wanted a fun new way to show off your Star Trek fandom, a Trekified debit card from Card.com is a good place to start. Debuting it’s first 15 original series designs in 2013, Card.com has now added over 50 new Star Trek card designs spanning TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT and Generations.

Card.com is a sort of “unbanking” service that gives you use of a debit card without signing up for a traditional bank. Card.com cards are serviced by Bankcorp Bank, so your funds are FDIC insured, and you get an account and routing number with your card, allowing you to use it for direct deposits. You can even have your tax refund automatically deposited onto your Card.com card.
One feature we wish Card.com would offer is the ability to purchase a pre-paid gift card – a card that you could load with money from your primary banking source to use as you please or one that you could gift to friends on special occasions. Instead, Card.com cards are sort of halfway between pre-paid gift cards and a traditional bank card.
For example, their fee structure is similar to that of a standard bank, particularly when it comes to maintenance fees. The use of the card is totally free, so long as you set up direct deposit of at least $1,000 every 30 days. Without direct deposit, you’ll be paying $9.95 a month to keep your card alive. Because of this fee, you really need to use your Card.com account as your primary checking account.
If you’re happy with your current banking situation, Card.com probably isn’t for you.
