‘Star Trek’ Fan Event: Zachary Quinto Unveils Leonard Nimoy Way at Paramount
Zachary Quinto, who will reprise his role as Mr. Spock in the upcoming “Star Trek Beyond” feature, dedicated Leonard Nimoy Way at a “Star Trek” fan event on Friday. The original Vulcan officer on board the Enterprise was of course the late Nimoy, who played the role on the 1960s “Star Trek” TV series and in subsequent features.
“Maybe the most humbling moment of my ‘Trek’ experience,” Quinto wrote in an Instagram post about the event (see below). Fans in attendance gave the split-fingered Vulcan salute made famous by Nimoy. A Periscope video of the event can be seen here.
Friday’s event, designed in part to promote the July 22 release of “Beyond,” was a lovefest for Nimoy, who died last year. Nimoy’s family was in attendance, according to blog reports.
“We miss him all the time,” Quinto told the crowd, according to the fan site trekmovie.com. “He’s in the film in a powerful way.”
A trailer for the new film was premiered at the event, with fans gathering on Paramount’s Stage 32, where the original series was filmed during the 1960s.
