If you’ve ever wanted a fun new way to show off your Star Trek fandom, a Trekified debit card from Card.com is a good place to start. Debuting it’s first 15 original series designs in 2013, Card.com has now added over 50 new Star Trek card designs spanning TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT and Generations.
“The Star Trek brand was one of our first licensed payment card brands,” Card.com CEO Ben Katz tells TrekMovie. “Since our initial launch in 2013 we’ve signed up thousands of happy cardholders who proudly carry one of 69 different Trek related designs, everything from Starships to the individual characters. We’re so pleased to be able to offer cards with Captains Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway and Archer, along with their associated vessels.”

One feature we wish Card.com would offer is the ability to purchase a pre-paid gift card – a card that you could load with money from your primary banking source to use as you please or one that you could gift to friends on special occasions. Instead, Card.com cards are sort of halfway between pre-paid gift cards and a traditional bank card.
For example, their fee structure is similar to that of a standard bank, particularly when it comes to maintenance fees. The use of the card is totally free, so long as you set up direct deposit of at least $1,000 every 30 days. Without direct deposit, you’ll be paying $9.95 a month to keep your card alive. Because of this fee, you really need to use your Card.com account as your primary checking account.
If you’re happy with your current banking situation, Card.com probably isn’t for you. But, if you want to give a new bank a try, Card.com has lots of features to draw you in besides oh so fashionable Star Trek cards. You’ll be able to get your money as cash from ATMs around the world, and you can reload your card in a multitude of ways – from direct deposit from your work to Western Union to getting your tax refund straight from the feds into your account.
